Aftercare
Once your tattoo is done, you will need to know how to take care of it properly to prevent infection and to heal properly. Every artist is different, so be sure to ask and do what they recommend.

The First Day
Once the tattoo is done, the artist will apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment over the tattoo and then cover the area in plastic wrap. This prevents bacteria from getting into your skin. It also protects the tattoo from rubbing onto your clothes and getting irritated. Leave the plastic wrap on for a few hours. Do not take the wrap off while you are at a public place, wait till you get home.
First wash your hands with water and soap. Then gently wash the tattoo with warm water and fragrance-free soap. Pat your skin dry with a soft cloth. Apply a small amount of Aquaphor (DONT use anything else) to the tattoo. You can keep the covering off at this point to let your skin breathe.
Healing Process
Make sure you wash your tattoo 3 to 4 times a day, washing your hands before and after. Throughout the healing process, your tattoo will begin to lightly scab. This is a completely normal part of the process and means your tattoo is healing properly. Be sure to NOT to pick or scratch at the scabs, they will flake off naturally. In 6 weeks your tattoo will be fully healed up.

Special Attention
Throughout the healing possess, be sure to be careful of sleeves, purse straps, watches, and other articles of clothing rubbing your tattoo. This will hurt the tattoo and could cause it not to heal properly. Do NOT let anyone touch your tattoo. Do not go swimming or submerge your tattoo in Pools, Creeks, Ponds, Rivers, or other bodies of water until it is healed. Do not let your tattoo get direct sunlight for long periods of time. When your tattoo is healed, put sunscreen on it to prevent it from fading in the sun.
